Project M.E.S.S. Initiative

Mentorship • Employment • Stability • Support Services

This comprehensive data-driven reentry initiative, led by the non-profit organization, aims to reduce recidivism among women and youth girls in Duval County. By directly recruiting from local and state correctional institutions, the program effectively reaches women in transition at a critical point in their lives and provides the necessary support to help them rebuild their lives with confidence and purpose.

**Mentorship Programs**: Personalized guidance and connection with trained peer support specialists, who have experienced similar journeys, offer pre- and post-release mentoring and guidance that fosters personal growth and resilience.

**Employment**: Job readiness training, career coaching, and resume support lead to sustainable work opportunities, empowering women to transform their lives.

**Stability**: This initiative focuses on building essential life skills, connecting participants to housing resources, and establishing a sustainable daily routine, which is crucial for women in transition.

**Support Services**: Holistic support centered on emotional wellness, community connections, and everyday needs is aimed at supporting women and girls, ultimately promoting women empowerment.

Workforce Development Program

Rebuilding Lives Through Work (Winter 2026)

The Project M.E.S.S. Initiative is launching a Workforce Development Program that provides women returning from incarceration in Jacksonville with paid transitional employment through MESS Haven Cleaning Services and the wraparound supports needed for long‑term stability.

Participants receive paid work experience, job readiness training, industry‑recognized cleaning certifications, mentorship, transportation assistance, life‑skills coaching, and direct job placement opportunities. The program builds on women’s existing strengths—caregiving, home management, organization, and resilience—and connects them to sustainable careers in commercial cleaning and facilities maintenance.

Because unemployment and economic instability are major drivers of recidivism, our model combines immediate income, workforce training, and peer‑led support to remove barriers to successful reentry.

MESS Haven Cleaning Services functions as the program’s social enterprise, creating real jobs while helping rebuild lives.

"Rebuilding Me" Curriculum - Reentry Journal

Mental, Emotional State of Self:

The Taming My M.E.S.S. Reentry Journal is a guided personal‑development tool created to support incarcerated and returning women through self‑reflection, healing, and intentional growth. Paired with the Rebuilding Me Curriculum, this program helps women explore identity, accountability, emotional wellness, and goal setting as they prepare for successful reentry.

Grounded in cognitive‑behavioral thinking and language, the curriculum teaches participants how thoughts influence emotions, choices, and outcomes. Through weekly themes, structured prompts, and facilitated group discussions, women learn to challenge harmful thinking patterns, build healthier decision‑making skills, and strengthen their sense of self.

Currently facilitated inside the Duval County jail, the program provides a safe, supportive space for women to rebuild confidence and prepare for life beyond incarceration. The journal is also available for purchase on Barnes & Noble, allowing women, families, and community supporters to access the resource outside the facility.
