Taming My M.E.S.S. Foundation, a non-profit organization founded by Kenyatta McCloud, is dedicated to empowering women in transition. With over 17 years of experience in community initiatives, Kenyatta has supported justice-impacted individuals as they navigate the complexities of employment, stability, and life after incarceration.
Through her extensive work inside correctional facilities and within the community, Kenyatta observed a painful trend: women were being released with plans but often lacked healing, confidence, and consistent support. Emotional trauma, the absence of identity restoration, and a lack of trusted relationships frequently hindered their progress long before they could access vital resources.
This realization led to the creation of Taming My M.E.S.S., which aims to support women holistically and fill the gaps in their journeys.
From Observation to Action
Kenyatta’s approach to reentry extends beyond mere job placement. She actively listens to women’s stories, stands by them in uncertain times, and recognizes how unaddressed emotional wounds can derail their progress. She understands that the path to reentry success begins with:
- Emotional regulation
- Restored self-worth
- Accountability without shame
- A commitment to mentorship programs that walk alongside women before and after their release.
Taming My M.E.S.S. Foundation is dedicated to meeting women earlier in their journey and providing long-term support.
A Relationship-Based Mission
What distinguishes Taming My M.E.S.S. Foundation is its focus on relationship-based support. Kenyatta rejects the idea of brief handoffs and believes in:
- Consistent mentorship
- Being present during challenging moments
- Celebrating milestones of freedom
- Guiding women as they transform into mentors and leaders themselves.
This philosophy is integral to every program under the foundation, including Project M.E.S.S. and Girls Circle Youth Prevention, both aimed at fostering resilience and personal growth.
A Commitment to Filling the Gap
Today, Taming My M.E.S.S. Foundation operates with a clear mission: to ensure that no woman or girl is released without the emotional support and identity restoration necessary for their success. Through pre- and post-release services, mentorship, workshops, journaling, youth prevention initiatives, and data-driven reentry strategies, the foundation is committed to transforming lives and supporting women along their journeys.
A Personal Note from the Founder
"I’ve witnessed the consequences when women are expected to be ready without adequate support. Taming My M.E.S.S. Foundation exists to meet women in the middle of their journey—not to fix them, but to empower them, reminding them of their worth as they rebuild their lives."
— Kenyatta McCloud, CEO & Founder
